The number "quoted" for the amateur radio operator
population is way too low.  As of 30 June 2005 there
are the following number of amateur radio operators in
the United States:

Novice       28,151  
Tech        317,655   
General     136,435   
Advanced     75,812     
Extra       106,852    

Total All Classes - 664,905
