Well,
I think you may mean the HP-3586, if so. I use my 3586 as a receiver for
lf here, and before I packed it all up for the move, my receive system
consisted of the HP-3586B with GPIB interface, a PTS 250 frequency
stable source to the 10 Mhz input of the 3586B. The GPIB equipment is
controlled by an old rack mount Intel 486 system running windows 98SE.
The control software is Labview (Student Edition) which lets me control
up to 6 units with front panel layouts on the monitor, with the keyboard
and the mouse.
The 3586 is sensitive enough to receive LF stations, including NDBs and
I copied some of the marine stations when they had their day on the air.
The HP-3586B has a built in speaker, but I prefer to use the audio to
drive a 600 ohm input to one of several older sound blaster cards, which
then drives *after" signal processing" a set of power speakers
(computer)
that I saved from the dumpster. The system is a 30 watt affair.
So yes they (HP-3586B) do receive signals and they cover from 1 hz up to
29,999.999 Mhz. with usb/lsb selections if desired, I enjoy the system
very much.
YMMV
