Phil,
Probably some who might have answered are in Dayton this weekend. Short
answer is that I don't know. I just had a look at a parts BC-312 and also the
overhaul manual. The manual didn't mention it and if there is any way, I can't spot
it. Most of the drive has the gear hubs drilled and pinned to the shafts in
addition to the set screws.
Zero on the dial is slightly below the minimum frequencies. My suggestion
before you even think of tearing into it is to calibrate the local oscillator at
the high check points per the manual and then check it at the low ones.
According to the overhaul manual, the best you can expect on the lowest band is +/-
5 KC, and +/- 10 KC is max allowable. If it falls within this range, I
wouldn't touch it. Note that there is no external adjustment on the lower ends of the
ranges. Adjustment requires bending a loop or wire in each coil. I did a
BC-344 once and believe me, you don't want to do it if you can avoid it.
