Don't know how things work in Payne County but, if you don't want to be
Shanghai'd, don't be. If you only want to talk on ham bands, by all
means do so. If you don't want to participate in CERT or Neighborhood
Watch, don't feel obligated to take care of yourself and your family.
Just know that help may be delayed, during a disaster.
I really don't care if you talk on Ham channels, FRS channels, or bounce
signals off the moon, as long as the Citizen is being served.
In the mean time, in Mayes County, the local hams work very well with
the local emergency management office with Memorandum of Understanding
in place. In fact, one of the comments made about communications at
our last drill was something on the order that it was the best run (and
hams WERE talking on FRS channels using FRS radios). This is evidence
about what the "pool of trained operators" could do.
No shanghai here. :)
