More WX

Ivan is the big news for all Amateur Radio operators in
Southeastern United States. The category 3 hurricane
hit land early this morning along the Gulf coast of
Alabama with destructive winds and rain. It was later
downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved further
inland. ARRL section managers are requesting ARES
volunteers from within their sections. At this time
help from other parts of the country is not being
requested because people cannot safely enter the
affected areas.

Read more on this storm and how Amateur Radio is
responding to it:

In addition to Ivan the National Hurricane Center is
watching hurricane Jeanne as it has just pummeled
Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Antenna Elmers

Now that folks have started wrapping up their summer
activities and kids are back in school, a lot of hams
are working on their antenna farms in preparation for
contests and other fall and winter operating
activities. Do you have any Elmer stories related to
antenna projects? If so please send them along to
clubs at arrl.org . Please include some pictures if you
have them.

School Clubs

Does your club sponsor a school club? Would your club
be interested in doing so? If so please contact the
Field & Educational Department and tell us about your
affiliation with a school club or get more information
on how to sponsor a school club. ead at arrl.org

Have a safe and healthy weekend and I hope to catch you
on the air from HQ.
