There are various ways to build "go kits". Without getting into a
discussion of all of the details, one new development everyone might want
to know about is the availability of WAG bags. The WAG stands for "waste
alleviation gel", and it is a bag system that gels human liquid and solid
body wastes and renders them safe enough to dispose of in regular trash
and landfills -- no need to handle as infectious wastes. They have EPA
certificates from every state in the union. This product is, at the
moment, one of the most ideal ways to handle a difficult problem in
disasters.

Although the WAG bags can be used without a toilet, there is also a
well-designed sturdy portable toilet that is also available. It has a
3-leg set up so it balances well in all sorts of terrain, can take a
weight load up to 400 pounds, and folds down to the size of a large
briefcase. If an extra cover is also used, you can store other things or
many WAG bags right inside the underneath compartment.

My first customer for this set-up was a communications officer with LA
County Sheriff's who figures he'll be up on mountain alone relaying
messages in the next disaster. He seems to love it. They are being used
in some military applications, and I really think we will see more and
more of them.

Before the WAG bags came along, I recommended RM-1, which is a
biodegradeable liquid treatment, with a five-year shelf life, that offers
some real advantages over the standard Bio-blue or Bio-green.
