Thanks to all the Mooreland-Woodward folk for a great time at their Hamfest
this past weekend.
Good discussion of Amateur Radio activity in the OK section. And a fun QLF
to "boot." Sure seemed some of the code sent in the qlf contest topped some
(including mine) CW heard on the air. The winner and the most appropriate
prize awarded therein will have to be learned from the "hams" of northwest
OK.
John Turner, KA7GLA, Section EC, discussed jackets being prepared to
highlight the emergency service communication being provided by our section
Amateur Radio operators. Nice lookin' attire. Eddie Manley, KD5JGB, of
Ponca City gave an overview of Congressional legislation and made available
samples of letter to use in writing congress. It was also mentioned that
effort is underway to submit proposed PRB-1 legislation to our state
legislature.
Gary Gerber, KB0HH, discussed his stay in North Texas to assist in the
recovery associated with the Colombia disaster. A very interesting
presentation revealing the arduous task, difficult conditions and blending of
Amateur Radio with other volunteers and service agencies.
A sojourn to northwest OK would be incomplete without a trip to the NW5OK
shack.....how about Amateur Radio facility! Quite a robust station with
public service capability dripping from the ceiling. Groceries at the
Hamfest? Yes, including donuts a plenty ready early in the day and sloppy
joes just suited for always hungry hams by lunch time.
Great Gathering.
