WORLD HEALTH DAY 2003 SPECIAL EVENT

The Tulsa Health Department=A0teamed up with the Oklahoma Section of the ARR=

to operate=A0a special event station from the Department's EOC on April 7 to=
=20
help bring attention to the World Health Organization's annual=A0celebration=
=20
of=A0"World Health Day."=A0 This year's promotion,=A0with=A0the theme "Healt=
hy=20
Environments for Children," was selected to bring attention to the fact that=
=20
millions of children die annually from environmentally related illnesses tha=
t=20
could be saved through the creation of healthy settings, whether in the home=
,=20
the school, or the community at large.

Operators included Jerry Chouinard, K5YAA, (5-Land QSL Bureau Manager),=A0=
=A0 two=20
former=A0Section Managers Charlie Calhoun, K5TTT=A0and Dave Cox, NB5N, Eddie=
=20
Manley, KD5JGB (EC),=A0 John Thomason, WB5SYT, SM and Terry Newton,=A0KD5VOL=
. In=20
spite of dismal band conditions, the group was able to work over 220 station=
s=20
in 39 states and 14 different countries on SSB and PSK31. February 2003 73=20
Magazine featured an article on the K5THD station. The special event is=20
discussed in the special event section of=A0 April 2003 QST, page 99.=A0=20
