[AReU] Fw: TARC/BARS Picnic

I can't remember the exact date but we had a joint TARC/BARS picnic
a few years ago and it was a big hit.

Lu Romero started the quest for another picnic last year but, with various
and sundry delays, we did not get around to generating a schedule.

Now the date is "set in stone" so to speak.

Saturday February 03, 2007 is the scheduled date for this outing.

The last time we had an AO40 station set up and, although we didn't
make any contacts because of bad orbit timing, we had a great time
and listened to the beacon. Several antennas were set up and everyone
got a look at a good satellite station.

This year I plan to set up a 3 cm (10368.1 MHz) station. Actually I will
set up two stations so that everyone can get a taste of what folks sound
like way up there in the frequency bands (actually, you can't tell the
difference).
I will bring a old DSS dish and will show just how much improvement can
be had with just a small dish. We're talking a 30 DB (that's times 1000!!!)
improvement over a small horn antenna by using the dish with the same horn
antenna. That's how folks talk thousands of miles on these frequencies when
the propagation is right.

Earth-moon Earth communication is commonplace now on the 10 GHz band and
has been accomplished on the 24 GHz band.

For the non-microwavers the TARC club has a great set up for just about
every band
and some of the BARS members that have never had the pleasure of seeing this
set up will be in for a great surprise. Many additions and improvements have
been
made in the last year or two and it's really an awesome set up.

Last, but not least, is the food. It is guaranteed that the hot dogs and
hamburgers
will be the greatest. That's what so great about an picnic like this one.
The calories
(both fat and non-fat) do not count. You can eat all you want and not gain a
pound.
And, by the way, if you believe that I have some old ham equipment out in
the back
room that I would like to sell you.

Everyone talk it up and maybe we will have several hundred folks turn out
(doubtful but
possible). The last time I checked there were about 2500 hams listed in a 30
mile
radius around Tampa. If you check the Brandon, Seffner, Riverview, Plant
City and
Valrico area you will find over 500 hams listed on QRZ.

How about confirming the date and I'll start putting out the
advertisements.

I'm looking forward to it.
