I agree with Hue. The stated range of the VHF YE-ZB system probably only 
remained a purely theoretical value. Doubtful the fighter planes would 
fly at 15,000 feet on a regular basis to pick up the distant signals, 
especially in adverse weather.

Anyway, we should remember that the YE-ZB system was shared with the 
British and remained in use on British aircraft carriers and naval 
aircraft well into the 1950s.
