275 miles sounds awefully optimistic and so much different from what i have read of actual accounts. 
I will try to find something to quote on that subject.
Re the freq stability, the YG / YE was modulated at a frequency we consider RF, that is, 550 - 1500 kHz. 
It was nothing but RF amps and a detector. The only stability requirement was on the MW Command type receiver.
