Hi Mike,

You could, but it will take a microcontroller to run it.    A 
programmable oscillator would be much easier and it looks like maybe ECS 
has backed off on obsoleting their through-hole parts - the ECS-P85-B 
from DigiKey would be the best choice for about $6.00.   You'd need to 
make some 5 volts for it from the filament supply but in my experience 
they work fine feeding tube-type mixers.   (As a filter - not so much!)
