Well that's interesting.   I wish there had been some coordination such 
that ham clubs or other interested local groups could take over the NDBs 
and run them, not as navigation aids but just as beacons for DX-ing and 
LF propagation research. Newfangled digital modes would also be a 
possibility - I routinely hear the MCW beacons from 25 watt NDBs from 
hundreds of miles away and more, who knows how much fun could be had 
with wspr at that power level?

But as Joni Mitchell aptly put it,  "Don't it always seem to go, you 
don't know what you've got til it's gone".
