When I was taking Private Pilot Ground school in the mid-70's we were told there was still one A-N Adcock range station in use in the USA, some place like Wyoming. Apparently the locals really liked it. I assumed it was because they found it useful for some kind of tricky approach to an airport.

The advent of the GPS based ADSB system was supposed to eliminate the need for ATC radar as well as VHF Omnirange and TACAN stations in the USA, supposedly reducing FAA costs while greatly increasing costs for private aircraft owners. Since that time the FAA has decided to keep some VORs operating and I think that NDBs can be still operated if a local authority chooses to pick up the maintenance costs, as happened for one station locally.

I have an ARC R-11A I used to tune in NDB's from my apartment in Midwest City, OK. And I have a Blauplunct AM car radio that has the European 150 KHZ to 300 Khz broadcast band and curiously enough is marked 1.5 to 2.9.

I wonder what the long term plan is for 150 KHZ to 500 KHZ.
