[ARC5] BC-221 and LM on eBay

    I have a BC-221 with AC power supply, probably a K. It has 
the original cal book and original crystal reference. Works fine. 
The most difficult part is getting the crystal exactly zero beat 
with WWV due to temperature drift. The problem comes from 
location of the trimmer. You can't get to it if the meter is in 
its case. The crystal must heat up to working temp to adjust it 
so getting it right means heating up the meter, seeing what the 
error is (usually not very much) and then taking it out and 
tweaking it. Of course, it drifts when out of the case and drifts 
back when in the case. With some patience one can get it very 
close, certainly closer than the spec.
     The internal standard also works as a decent calibration 
marker.  Of course, modern transceivers are controlled by very 
accurate and precise sources like atomic clocks.
