I’m quirky in that I like to work on my old gear using my old test equipment. Cheap thrills for this old dog.

The most difficult part is getting the crystal exactly zero beat with WWV due to temperature drift. The problem comes from location of the trimmer. You can't get to it if the meter is in its case. The crystal must heat up to working temp to adjust it so getting it right means heating up the meter, seeing what the error is (usually not very much) and then taking it out and tweaking it. Of course, it drifts when out of the case and drifts back when in the case. With some patience one can get it very close, certainly closer than the spec.

>> Interesting, in the 1962 article on calibrating them, the author says that units WITH charts were selling for $100, without charts for $33 on average. I’m guessing most of us got ours at REALLY great prices according to that! We may be sitting on our retirement funds……..
>> I already made a chart for mine covering 3500-3600Kc, but I’m going to try KU8H’s method of generating a cal book for the full range and see how that works.
