Perhaps the problem getting the VRC-1 on frequency was more like "keeping it on frequency",
with its BC-191 transmitter ?
BTW, how did they get power for the BC-191 ?

My father mentioned the VRC-1 belonging to the 90mm AA gun battalion. In Sicily, the VRC-1
was used at night to listen to 'Axis Sally'. I don't know if there was one VRC-1 supplied to the
4 battery Battalion or if each gun battery had its own VRC-1 jeep. That might have been too
costly. I believe that wire communications were primary between the gun batteries and the
VRC-1 was backup and maybe comm link to higher levels.
He never said much about his Purple Heart, because it was from "friendly fire". A 90mm
shell fired I suppose at low inclination struck a tree branch and exploded, and he was wounded
by the shrapnel.

There's an Oregon vehicle collector, Robin Bartel, along I-5 somewhere near Jefferson, Oregon,
with the MZ jeep in his collection. He has quite a museum, worthy of many a small city. I was
surprised to see there he has probably the most complete SCR-131 ( loop set ) and SCR-203
( mule set ) existing. As well as that super rare BC-1136 version of the BC-1306.
