Actually, I think more things should be sold on an auction type basis. In the store, I see some package of seafood, or some
produce approaching a pull date, or looking less fresh, and I think, the price should be going down as D-Day approaches.
To some extent, this is sometimes practiced, but I would go for it more universally.

If you actually calculate the real value, in constant dollars many prices are quite reasonable. The ARC 5 receiver from your youth at 6 bucks was a reasonable price, but, remember, gas was around 25 cents a gallon. Now, when you find a company or person who has maintained in good condition that same "new" ARC 5, or whatever, for some 70 years and he wants 90 bucks or more for a pristine radio, you should not complain, but happily pay for the pristine unit.
