Kindly-
Just adjusting prices for inflation is an over-simplification.
That assumes other market forces are the same as they
were in 1960, and they surely aren't. The supply for the
most popular rigs, after dropping for many years, is now
increasing as our contemporaries "join the choir invisible."
At the same time, and for the same reason among others,
such as the discouraging by Academe of teaching young
"skulls full of mush" to value and honour our history,
the rapid advance of technology etc., the demand for these
pieces is continuing to collapse. This makes a straight
inflation indexing as an indication of current value problematic.
In truth, the price one might have paid in 1960 for any item
is irrelevant. "How many do you have right now" and
"who wants them right now" is what determines current price.
Millions of people were eager to buy millions
of hula-hoops in 1958. You'd have a hard time selling many
of them today, even if they were priced the same $1.98
from 1958. There just isn't much interest. Our radios
are no different.
