Wow! I scrolled back a few posts on the Forum page and was shocked at the
photo's of how badly the T-18 looked originally. You certainly did an
outstanding job of restoring it. You get my vote for the
ARC-5 Restorer of the Year Award!

Which leads me to several questions:

  1.
What did you use to clean the chassis so well. After your cleanup
the chassis looks almost brand new!

  2.
I was surprised to see that you attached the new rear power connector
using rivets. Why the surprise? Well because the replacement
power connector has to be positioned almost perfectly so the FT-226A
rack's power plug pins align correctly when they mate with the power connector. Excellent craftsmanship, and I sure would like to know your
secret to making that happen?
(I have a T-19 on my work bench right now that needs a replacement power connector, but I didn't want to start work until I was sure I could solve the pin and socket alignment issues.)

  3.
In the location where the flower pot cap (3x.05) was originally, you
installed a terminal strip with 3 discrete caps. Was wondering what working voltage and capacitance values you used? I'm guessing .05 mfd and 600 wv... And sure would like to know where you bought them? If it's from Mouser, the part number would be great as I get onfused with their component search system..

  4.
And finally it looks like you replaced R-71, the 126 ohm, 7 W, heater equalizing resistor with a hand wound resistor. Was wondering what wire you used, and why you mounted it vertically, instead of horizontally as it was originally. It's an
interesting decision, and was curious.

Thanks in advance,

I picked this one up from a local ham... it was modified and pretty much
ruined
as a collector grade radio. The set was modified for both crystal and VFO
operation, and the rear deck was drilled and butchered. It started life
as an AN/ARC-5. Unfortunately, the best I could do was to convert it
to work in a FT-226A rack, and a rear connector from a trashed chassis
was installed and wired on the rear apron.

The internal wiring was replaced as close to original as reasonable...
Fortunately I was able to locate the correct relay for the cathode
keying. Still looking for an antenna relay and the correct antenna post.
Any leads would be appreciated..

I have a second T-18 from a member on this group who was
klnd enough to send it to me. That one will be a little easier
to bring back to decent condition.
