Any time an older aircraft is involved in any incident, the naysayers seem to pop out of the woodwork, decrying the continued use of these aircraft, claiming that as long as these aircraft are aloud to fly, because of their age, it in inevitable that they will crash. That is pure, unadulterated Bullshit. These aircraft are better maintained than most modern airliners. We don’t know what caused this crash. Preliminary reports do not indicated equipment failure. What we do know is that accidents happen, for whatever reason. They happen to new and old aircraft. They just make a bigger headline if there is anything special, including age, involved in any accident. There are aircraft of this type that are maintained as static display pieces in museums, where the general public is permitted to look at them only from the outside, at a distance. Thank God for those who believe otherwise. We should rightfully mourn the loss of life and be saddened by the loss of the aircraft. We should do everything possible short of grounding all remaining examples of the aircraft to see that this does not happen again. Aircraft are meant to be flown

 Anyone remember the sad story of the B-29 Kee Bird that was lost right after restoration due to a loose APU in the tail?  
 
 I can still picture those guys sitting there watching it burn to the ground after putting in so many man hours to get it flying again.....sigh...

Presumably he meant the back of the engine. Too early to know anything definite. Since this aircraft was operating as a commercial venture and carried passengers for revenue I would presume it had to meet many modern standards for safety. I wonder if anyone actually knows. Did it carry a CVR and black box? It may be months before a definitive NTSB report is available. 
    One news report stated it crashed into a de-icing facility.
