Hello All,
In addition to Dave's point about the pin aligning the dial to the gear hub,
I have found that the pin hole is not always in exactly the same place. Some
receivers have come to me with a non-original tuning dial - that does not
allow correct alignment. The tuning dial, however, does have a small mark
indicating end-of-travel for the tuning capacitor. So, turn the tuning
capacitor to its end stop; if the end-of-travel mark does not align with the
fiducial, loosen the centre nut, move the dial and then retighten the nut;
but first, remove the pin if it's stuck in the gear hub. For added peace of
mind, you could drill a new pin hole to stake the dial.
For the beacon-band Rx, I have sometimes found that the slug inside the RF
coil has come loose or moved. That can be remedied with a modern epoxy - but
it's fiddly.

First- How did you set the frequency for the BFO and how did you align the
IF?
Second- Look around the nut that holds the dial on the front of the radio.
Somewhere next to the nut should be pin- usually covered in black fixative
paint- which goes through the dial and into the hub on the capacitor to
which the dial is bolted. If this pin is missing and the dial has rotated
out of position, no amount of alignment will work. If you don't see the
pin, unbolt the dial. You should see the hole in the hub and the hole in
the dial. A mid-diameter sewing needle can substitute. Re-align once the
dial is in the right position.
If these aren't the problem,
send me your mailing address and I"ll send you a known-good coil set to try.
