[ARC5] Smart People: How Would You Fix This?

Dave:

Have you considered contact paper? A woodgrain would be nice or perhaps a pleasant yellow flowered pattern? I once used woodgrain contact paper to cover a steel TV chassis on which I built a power supply and it has stood the test of time. Looks every bit as hideous now as it did in 1973.

But seriously, is the original lettering raised? If so you probably can strip the old paint, repaint (crinkle finish?) and then pick out the lettering with a silver Sharpie marker or possibly silver Rub and Buff. I really like the Rub and Buff idea and have procured some for that purpose but have yet to actually try it. I am thinking maybe if you put gauze over the raised lettering and used Rub and Buff over that it might not get all over everything else.
