No.  It would not have been the BC-A*-429 receiver that needed adjustment...it would have been the BC-A*-430 transmitter.

Perhaps quality wasn't the issue...advancement of the design would be.  There is very little substantive change in the SCR-A*-183/-283 from 1932 to 1942.  The RU/GF design stabilized in 1934 (GF-2/RU-3A), with some tweaks in 1938, a more capable design from the 1932 original GF.
