[ARC5] SCR-283

A book I have on the USAAF P-400 fighters on Guadalcanal seems to indicate they were equipped with SCR-283, based on the pictures.  That figures, since those were export versions of the P-39.  

And it says that the radio maintenance guys had to go out and realign those sets every evening, because they got off frequency so badly.  There is even a picture of a guy standing by an airplane with a BC-221.

So, are TRF sets more likely to get out of alignment than superhets?  I can see that since you are essentially tuning the equivalent of an IF stage every time you use it, that might indeed be the case.

Of course, I understand the RU and GF sets were rather higher quality than the 183/283.
