"Each to his own," as they say. These are previously-
defiled rigs so anything goes. However, when it comes
to these extensive (and if you're going to buy filter crystals,
expensive) changes-
My personal choice and YMMV of course:
I don't try to make a "YeaComWood 76Zillion" out of a
70-year-old war relic. In my long experience, such efforts
usually end in disappointment when the effort expended
fails to deliver the performance expected.
Yet another radio ends-up in the Hamfest junk pile,
where "back in the day" you could find 40 half-hacked
hulks for every workable set.
I enjoy them for what they are; I don't try to work DXCC
with them. I talk on local rag chews and make the occasional
CW contact (like The Novice Rig Roundup; that was fun :-).

I'm not mad at anyone for disagreeing or even mildly irritated
at such use of already-modded equipment.
It's just not something I would spend my precious,
dwindling time or money to do.
I enjoy gently toddling-around in my "Model-T-Ford" radio.
I don't take it on the Interstate or enter it in NASCAR ;-)
