Jeep:

The letters on the B-348 front panel are raised and the best way I have found to restore them is to use a silver fine Sharpie marker after the wrinkle finish has been stripped and repainted.  It's not perfect but it works.

I have also considered using silver Rub and Buff but I have yet to find a suitable applicator.

One thing that occurred to me is that if you took a strip of silk or gauze and put it over the letters and then rubbed the outside with the Sharpie marker that might transfer just enough to the letters.  At that point I realized I had probably just invented silk screening.

As for knobs, I have found some 25 cent plastic knobs with metal inserts the exact same size as the round knobs, but they have a raised portion in the center.  I think that by sanding that down, filling it in with hobby putty, and painting it, the result will be a exact replica.  Unfortunately I have found only 5 of them and the supply dried up.
