It was obtained by the FBI in August 1942 and used to inform the US mainland of the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941?

It is true that on 7 Dec 1941 that the military comm circuits to Hawaii were down and when the decoding of the Japanese embassy messages revealed that war was imminent the warning was sent by Western Union.  It arrived the afternoon of the attack, and thus was only useful for amusement.
