John is pretty much spot on. Our home-grown local hardware store, which 
has become part of Ace Hardware, carries a pretty extensive line of brass 
tubing and sheet, aluminum tubing, square stock, angle stock, and sheet, 
and some steel versions of the same stuff.

Both in 12" lengths and in 24" and 36" lengths.

Also balsa.
