There is an RC network that the manual refers to as a spark suppressor.

It consists of a series RC network R-61 and C-57(20 ohms and .05 uF) from
the switched side of the B+ line to ground. This combination is in both
a BC-456 and MD-7/ARC-5, and probably the ATA modulator as well.
