I don't know the material, but yes you should be able to solder to it, How well? Up to you're skills I suppose.

P.S. I use a hot plate to pre heat assemblies requiring solder reflow. Helps, in my experience but that (my experience) is always questionable. The real experts should step forward now....

I just used a dremel tool cut off wheel to open one of the bathtub style capacitors in order to rebuild it. I always though those were aluminum but I recall reading somewhere that they are actually brass? It looks like I can solder the top part I cut off back on.

Yes, it's an arbitrary scale for logging purposes. ARC-5 and SCR/ATA are different from each other but probably the same for each tx in their respective series. So find a "parter" with a good window scale. You'll get your bearings too most likely or a replacement part all together. But the knowledge that you can rebuild one of these capacitors is good stuff to have "under your belt".

BC-696-A? I just replaced the window and it seems like there should be
something in there to indentify the position of the roller inductor.
