[ARC5] BC-696-A Inductor Scale_capacitor rebuild

Jay, After cutting what I call the top piece of the capacitor off I tuned it
upside down on some foil and placed it in the outdoor gas grill on low for
about 10 minutes. That was enough to soften it up and remove the original
capacitors. I am going to replace those 3 with .05uf orange drops and solder
the top back on. It will look almost original when complete.

I don't know the material, but yes you should be able to solder to it, How
well? Up to you're skills I suppose.

Jay

P.S. I use a hot plate to pre heat assemblies requiring solder reflow.
Helps, in my experience but that (my experience) is always questionable. The
real experts should step forward now....

I just used a dremel tool cut off wheel to open one of the bathtub style
capacitors in order to rebuild it. I always though those were aluminum but I
recall reading somewhere that they are actually brass? It looks like I can
solder the top part I cut off back on.

Yes, it's an arbitrary scale for logging purposes. ARC-5 and SCR/ATA are
different from each other but probably the same for each tx in their
respective series. So find a "parter" with a good window scale. You'll get
your bearings too most likely or a replacement part all together. But the
knowledge that you can rebuild one of these capacitors is good stuff to have
"under your belt".

Does anyone know if there is a scale in the roller inductor window of the
BC-696-A? I just replaced the window and it seems like there should be
something in there to indentify the position of the roller inductor.
