OK. I see what you mean and that is definitely a possibility.
On the other hand, not one single one of my many references to this method
even mention the HFO at all, let alone disabling it.

OK. To test this idea isn't difficult: all I have to do is remove the HFO coil,
which in these receivers, plugs in.
On the other hand, why does my method of removing the detector tube and
connecting to the last IF output work as it does? The HFO is still running in
that case.
