[ARC5] Inspired Hack Job

Truly an inspired attempt at swords to  plowshares. I wonder how many hours 
the creator put into this work of Ham  Art.  Not a train wreck, but making 
do with what's available.  I am  sure that someone in this august group of 
command set aficionados can make  an estimate of how many of the 190 to 550 
KHz receivers were manufactured.   It must have been in the 10s of thousands 
and perhaps more given that  these rascals were more than likely installed 
in most aircraft be they small or  large.  I recall that the 190-550 KHz 
radios were flown in many aircraft  well into the 50s.   
    And judging from the ample supply of these units  even today would 
suggest that those that did not go down to the sea right after  WWII (post war 
demil)  have seen safe haven in many a ham shack these  past 60+ years... 
most in original condition since they really had no practical  value other than 
to be used as an external selective IF system which most of the  time 
required little in the way of modifications.  I too recall the  articles that 
used the 190-550 KHz unit as both a simple heterodyne VFO--exciter  and an SSB 
exciter making use of those wonderful 85 KHz IF transformers as a SSB  
filter.  Cool idea in my opinion even today.
