First, know that here in central Florida we normally have only two seasons: Summer and the 4th of July.
But for the portion of the year when the garage is habitable, I have focused on finishing the restoration of a BC-348-J I picked up a while back. It was badly hammed up, painted a bilious shade of green and had various holes added and others filled with window glazing putty. Then it must have been stored in the rafters of a smokehouse. I have been working on it for years and only recently found it was a J model instead of a Q by going through the filament string and discovering it has the J configuration.
I was sidetracked for a bit recently when I decided to remove the dynamotor mounting chassis for a BC-348-N and replace it with a piece of 1/8 in thick AL plate. The dynamotor plate still had its 5 terminal strip in place and I want to use it to mount a suitable dynamotor. The N model had been hammed up as well but the guy did such a good job that I decided to leave it alone; besides it worked.
I stripped all the paint off the J model and repainted it with black Krinkle finish, a new brand I decided to try that is intended for high temperature applications such as automobile engines. The paint worked fairly well but when I tried to use silver Rub and Buff for the raised lettering I found it looked great but got all over everything. My fingers are way too large. I stripped the front plate and repainted it again. I plan to next try a silver Sharpie marker.
Meanwhile, we have had 8.25 inches of rain here since last night and it's still coming down.
