Robert,
Please, what might that "new" brand of black wrinkle paint be? Also, many folks who do these BC-348 front panels carefully sand or scrape off the paint from the raised lettering. A stereo microscope is very useful for us gracefully moving up in years. It would be interesting to know what the original process was. If we knew that, we could duplicate it in some fashion.
Anyone have any ideas on A.R.C. gear with engraved lettering? My 1st guess is a silkscreen type process but with ancient technology (i.e. no computers and graphics software!).
I do have a thought here though. On an engraved panel, one could first apply the white lettering paint and let it dry. The paint would form a "shallow" in the engraving. That then could be filled with an inhibitor to the black wrinkle. Then it could be carefully cleaned all aroud the engraving and then primed and painted with the final finish.
 Does this make any sense?
 Critics welcome!
                          Jay KE6PPF

First, know that here in central Florida we normally have only two seasons:
ummer and the 4th of July.
But for the portion of the year when the garage is habitable, I have focused on
inishing the restoration of a BC-348-J I picked up a while back. It was badly
ammed up, painted a bilious shade of green and had various holes added and
thers filled with window glazing putty. Then it must have been stored in the
afters of a smokehouse. I have been working on it for years and only recently
ound it was a J model instead of a Q by going through the filament string and
iscovering it has the J configuration.

was sidetracked for a bit recently when I decided to remove the dynamotor
ounting chassis for a BC-348-N and replace it with a piece of 1/8 in thick AL
late. The dynamotor plate still had its 5 terminal strip in place and I want
o use it to mount a suitable dynamotor. The N model had been hammed up as well
ut the guy did such a good job that I decided to leave it alone; besides it
orked.
I stripped all the paint off the J model and repainted it with black Krinkle
inish, a new brand I decided to try that is intended for high temperature
pplications such as automobile engines. The paint worked fairly well but when
tried to use silver Rub and Buff for the raised lettering I found it looked
reat but got all over everything. My fingers are way too large. I stripped
he front plate and repainted it again. I plan to next try a silver Sharpie
arker.
Meanwhile, we have had 8.25 inches of rain here since last night and it's still
oming down.
