Bob brings up a point that I try very hard to remember, but occasionally 
forget.  It all depends on the date of the airframe being discussed, and 
it behooves all of us to be sensitive to that fact.  It is somewhat akin 
to software revisions in today's parlance.  There were so many blasted 
changes in some of the combat airframes that a dozen different 
statements about any particular aircraft may indeed be correct - for a 
given point in time.  Interestingly enough, there was an evaluation of 
the efficacy of the avionics suite aboard the B-29 in 1944 that 
recommended just that sort of change in the location of the radio 
operator.  It evidently wasn't acted upon until after the war.
