I stand corrected. It was the B-17 where the navigator was in the nose 
behind the bombardier.

In the B-29 the navigator an radio operator were behind the pilots. In later 
models the radio operator moved to the waist compartment.

In some models the navigator doubled as the loader for the 75mm canon.

When I was at Lowery AFB in 1952 we did have a B-25 with the 75mm canon. The 
loader sat on a bicycle seat on top of the gun. Not a fun job!
