Michael,
The BC-223 and 191 xmtrs would pair well with your BC-312 as Meir
mentioned. The 191 is not really useable on 40M, though, because of
an initial, rapid 3KC downward frequency drift the first 30 or so
seconds following key down. Some downward shift on 75 too but
tolerable, and almost negligible on 160. Suspect something similar
would be experienced with a modified 223.
For commercially built companions to your SX-24, I would add Stancore,
and Hallicrafters to the list. Also, since most hams built their own
transmitters in the late 30s/early 40s you might consider that route
as well.
