[ARC5] Companions to a BC-312 & a Halli SX-24

In the somewhat near future, a BC-312 will be arriving at my doorstep
and I would like to pair it with something more or less appropriate.
Memory serving, its usual companions on the back of a Jeep were the
BC-191 and the BC-223, neither of which are readily available these
days. If I had a choice, I’d rather a BC-223 with at least the TU-18
tuning unit plus a hacked TU to put on 40m. This will fit nicely on
the back of the Jeep with room left over for me and my “support” (read
as: huge coffee urn and some SPF-something sun block) so I can enjoy
some good old time hollow state CW.

Coming back to reality (or what passes for it), I would like to find
something hollow state of about the right vintage (or perhaps
post-war) to pair up with the BC-312 that wouldn’t be a problem
operating from 12vdc and would be a reasonable substitute for the
basic set plus hacked TU – i.e., 80 & 40m CW, around 25 watts out into
whatever sort of antenna I can raise where ever I am at the moment.

Also, what would be appropriate to mate to an SX-24? I know military
surplus but I have no clue about civilian equipment that would have
been used with it that I would be able to acquire without financial
heartache. Speaking of that self-same SX-24, does anyone have a meter
for one. The example I’m acquiring is missing its meter, leaving a
rather unpleasant hole in the panel.

Any thoughts?

Best regards,

Michael, WH7HG
