The PE-101 was the dynamotor for the BC-645 IFF set. The encryption code was set by means of cams that worked off an extension of the dynamotor shaft. Presumably this provided a means to attach a pulley.
And if you had to rape, pillage, and generally savage a dynamotor, then the PE-101 was an excellent choice. It's not like there is another use for it, other than just general coolness.
By the way, if y'all want any more info on the BC-645 there was a detailed article on it in a 1946 edition of some professional electronics engineering magazine.
