The Yardeny-equipped R-26 and R-27s were a necessary step in the right
direction using existing quipment. It was by no means perfect but it
lead the way toward a completely channelized system like the
AN/ARC-25.

I've seen a few ATCs retrofit with the vernier dial but I don't know
if that was a ham improvement or if it was done during their military
careers. If someone has a set of mods for these sets, it would be
interesting to see if it was official.
