When thinking about manufacturing capacity re-directed to the
Pacific, recall that in mid to late 1944 the powers that be thought the
war in Europe would be over by Christmas and in the Pacific not much
after that. There were wholesale cancellations of defense contracts in
September and October. It was only when (1) the Kamikaze threat popped
up in the Pacific and then (2) the Germans counter-attacked in Belgium
in December that there was a great rush to re-activate a lot of
contracts. The A.R.C. corporate records amply document that for the
AN/ARC-5, etc. Whether production of the AN/ARC-3 was ramped up I cannot
say, but probably not in the late summer or fall of 1944 (unless someone
has records to the contrary.)

The realization that the Japanese would fight to the absolute death
was not widely realized until after Okinawa and the Kamikase attacks
proved so deadly.
