Speaking of hot capacitors...
I had the +24V main filter cap in a BC-456 SCR-274N modulator EXPLODE.It was hot enough to melt the solder and remained too hot to touch for at least 10 minutes.What a mess of wax and foil it made! Don't know if I caused it or it just failed.I replaced it and everything worked fine.

Yep,
thats what I do,
and keep on checking to see thay are not getting hot,
BUT I have had one fail after about 6 months.
And I have run them on 24vdc just by joining the 2 dyno pins
together (as Dave Simpson suggested a while back)
and that runs fine as well.
