I just wanted to thank all who replied to my bleat for guidance on starting
work on that BC-453.
I was considerably enlightened and am certainly less a danger to my
equipment than when I
first hit those original caps with 253 v!

I am acquainted with (and have performed) reforming of electrolytic caps
but not plain old
foil types, which have considerably different physics and chemistry.

It is indeed great to have a receiver with its one band hard wired,
avoiding all the mechanical
and electrical foibles of bandswitching, certainly the achilles heel of the
boat anchors I've
worked on.

I've decided to go ahead and replace the capacitors in the BC-453, then
operate it with around 200 v B+
after realigning, etc. This may be after some other projects I'm involved in.

Meanwhile I'll keep tuned to this great listserve.
