> Anyone know where to get nickel plated brass phillister (?) head
The btype you are referring to is spelt Fillister. The cover screws are not that
type, but are binding head. For screw types see:

Screws with cative lockwashers are called SEMS, as I remember.

I suspect a Google search would turn up a supplier. Perhaps Small Parts or the
like may have them. I suspect your main problem will be buying less than a
thousand or so. You might have to buy brass screws and get them plated.
> Also, how to get the remaining screw shank out after the head is broken off?
Try a gentle poke with the tip of an X-acto knife and see if you can turn the
screw and thread it out, either forwards or backwards. This may work if it was
broken by over tightning.
Worst case, align and clamp the radio to a drill press table and carefully drill
the screw out with an undersized tap drill.. You will need to start the hole in
the screw with a stiff drill, like a small center drill, otherwise the drill
will wander and mess the chassis up. If the screw is long enough, and sticks out
top or bottom, you can try needlenose pliers first.
> And why does this happen? Cross threading by over zealous techs?
Not really likely.Overtightning or a wrong screw is more likely, IMO. These
screws are not all that easy to cross-thread.
Good luck with it,
John
