[Antennas] tuning my 4-BTV

Ok Bill, I will give that a try. An update: I found the reason for no low SWR, it indeed was the pigtail
for ground, fixed that problem. I trimmed the radials and boy did that screw things up ! I put them all
back to spec. I also got on the air and got a good report from a chap in Mass. even though it was reading
3:1 on 14.223 khz with the auto A/T off in my Kenwood.

That brings to mind, I read in the Hustler manual not to use an antenna tuner. WHY? If the tuner was to
be on in the XCVR would that be a bad thing?

While I am talking antennas, if anyone needs line tensioners for their guy lines or to tie down their
radials and still have them adjustable, go to Lowes and get Blue Hawk clothesline tightener part number
0349201 priced at $2.98, a few bucks cheaper than the ham dealers (no interest in Lowes) and I have no
bone to pick with the ham dealers, just being frugal as many of us must.

Thanks for all the many replies. You guys are great. Will keep you informed.

| If it was me I think I would try the tuning without the T-4 and see what you get. I know it SHOULD be
fine. The web page refers to as a 'current' type. I guess not knowing enough about it I would just remove
the unknown factor and tune the antenna without it. If it tunes fine and you get your previous result
after putting it back in, I'd question why. But at least you'd know the antenna was tuned.

|
| I guess I left that out of my original message, I have a RadioWorks T-4 line isolator at the feed
point. It is considered an UNUN.
|
| Will update the group when I get things checked again after adjusting the radials. Right now I have NO
low SWR point so I suspect the pigtails. I might have pulled one loose. Will check continuity and go from
there.
