Hello Paul,

I have a friend that has a Diamond X-50 and likes it very much. He did what 
you are doing and this was the antenna he got the best comments on.

It is not the biggest in terms of gain and size, but it does have the 
advantage of being all one piece without a screw together coupling in the 
middle.

The coax connection is up inside the base I understand which would be an 
advantage to keep the weather away from the connection. UHF and Type N 
connectors are available.
