[Antennas] seeking info on cobwebb antenna

Hi Reggie and the group,

I am a member of a university radio club that is located in a historic
part of London (next to Royal Albert Hall) that results in severe ant
restrictions. This led to a cobwebb being chosen as the stations HF
antenna and is placed about 15 feet above the roof of a 4 floor
building. I would like to say that I haven't modelled this, or even been
able to do A/B comparisons back to back, but I have always been
disapointed with the antennas performance. I live about 3 miles away
from the club location and use a homebrew carolina windom at the dizzy
height of 25 ft. With identical radios/power etc I feel the windom
out performs the cobwebb on every band.

The club is now seeking permission to remove the cobwebb and replace it
with a windom/G5RV or similar. If this happens I will take the cobwebb
home and do some A/B comparisons with my carolina windom and post it to
the list if there is enough interest.

I feel that the cobwebb does a job in a limited space. Most of us would
like to run huge towers with stacked monoband yagis and phased vertical
arrays. Then reality sets in, you live in town and have to accept the
limitations of small multiband antennas like the cobwebb (but have all
the theatres/bars etc on your doorstep, hi).

I fully also accept the limitations of this report, but this is my
simple opinion of the matter. I don't wish to start another war on this
reflector......
