Well the only positive thing I can say about the RS speaker wire # 18 GA is 
that after a year op more some outer coating on the insulation starts to chip 
off.
As for the bare RS # 14 wire I have so muck I hate to buy any more wire.
Today the Guy at my local RS stores gave me 2 free rolls.
They were nothing but a tangled up mess so I spend some time in the hall way 
and I'll have 150 feet of free wire.
I have to side with George on the crud build up.
For years hams used bare wire.
Even today B&W makes an antenna with copper coated wire and some say that the 
copper will be eaten of from acid rain and others say they had it up for 
years.
After loading into screens, window frames, wire wound around a broom handle 
and the pole lamp with a coil in the center for the taps.
I always asked myself it that insulated wire wrapped on the metal pole lamp 
was some sort of big oversized trap.
Well, it worked and I wished I logged all my DX contacts.
Back to the iron.
